CASE STUDY:
Lipoprotein Animation (Preproduction Process)

For this project, I worked on a team to produce a educational animation about lipoprotein(a), for a nonbranded campaign with the goal of raising awareness in general public.

My contributions to the prepoduction steps of this project included a mood board, concept art, storyboards, and an animatic of one scene.

To make the molecular science more accessible to a lay audience, I developed a visual metaphor centered on frogs developing in a murky pond. I created images for a mood board by honing prompts in MidJourney. Then, using Adobe Photoshop, I modified images from the mood board to create concept art.

After the development of the mood board and concept art, I drafted rough story boards in Adobe Photoshop.

During the next phase, our team developed a high-fidelity animatic, with each member animating a single scene. For my segment, I imported molecular structures from MolStar and edited them to create low-polygon models of low-density lipoprotein (LDL)s and Lp(a). I  then animated a sequence introducing the general structure of lipoproteins, while incorporating the material and lighting setups developed by project lead Mckenzie Dulmes and team members Madison Taylor and Elizabeth Perakes.

I composited this animatic in Adobe After Effects. Mckenzie Dulmes produced the AI narration in ElevenLabs, from a script provided by the client.
